This year the Wave Masters is introducing a new format, offering guest speakers who’ll be giving talks on specific areas of surfing, such as yoga, health and nutrition and FITNESS.
I’m one of the speakers, and I’ll be covering surf fitness at 10:15am. I’ll be talking and taking questions about how strength training and stretching relate to improving surf ability, as well as strengthen the body against injury.
Surf-specific training and fitness has been gaining a lot of attention in recent years, as most of the professional surfers on tour are now training heavily during down days and in-between contests.
Surfers like Mick Fanning, Kelly Slater and Joel Parkinson and Taj Burrow have well documented surf-training programs and are often interviewed about how training has improved their performance on tour.
